Mr. Bernard T. West has more than thirty years
of progressive leadership and administrative experience
in the financial services industry. He is currently
the Founder & Director of West Insurance Agency,
Inc., one of the largest minority-owned full service
agency in the country.
Bernard is also the founder of Urban Underwriters
Insurance, an agency dedicated to providing insurance
products and services to under served urban communities
through local producers. Since its formation in
1995, Urban has trained 250 producers, writing more
than 10,000 policies, insuring almost $2 Billion
in property values in urban areas throughout Massachusetts.
Keeping most of the commission dollars in those
areas, Bernard recently accepted the Black & White
Coming Together Award presented by Mayor Thomas
Menino for creating economic development in urban
areas.
From 1983 to 1991, he was Director, President
and Chief Executive Officer of Coolidge Bank and
Trust Company of Boston, Massachusetts. He also
worked for Federal Reserve Bank of Boston.
He presently serves on the Board of Arbella Insurance
Company. He is a past member of the Boston Fair
Housing Board, the Urban League Economic Development
Council, previously served on the board of the Boston
Economic Development and Industrial Corporation,
and was a Trustee of Cambridge College and Roxbury
Community College Foundation.
He holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Finance
from Philadelphia University.
